Who comes

Who is it for

You don't need a reason.

  • To slow down in a fast-paced modern world
  • To rest and digest
  • To reconnect with yourself
  • Because you love horses
  • Because you are going through something
  • Because you simply want an hour somewhere beautiful and quiet

The experience

A session lasts 60 minutes, from arrival to departure.

Before

On arrival at Riverdance Farm you are invited to settle in with tea or water. Germaine will explain the process and present you with an indemnity to sign.

When you are ready Germaine accompanies you to the shaded area where the horses are and where the experience takes place. Shoes are removed and put in a safe convenient place. Blankets and cushions are provided for your comfort. Gentle music is an option while you settle into the environment.

The practice

The practice is a guided intuitive relaxation process.

The horses are free to behave as horses. They are not instructed or trained to perform and they choose how they engage. There is no riding, no horsemanship lesson and no expectation that you interact with the horses.

They move freely around you, and you are invited simply to rest and notice what happens.

Afterwards

Reflecting on the experience: a conversation, or simple breathing.

There is no prescribed outcome. Some people feel rested, some feel lighter, some simply enjoy the quiet. You leave when you are ready.

About

Germaine's grandfather carried the print of a horseshoe on his skull.

He was born on the wagons. Taking the horses down to the river was his job, and one morning a leopard came out of the reeds. They reared, they bolted, and one of them came down on his head. He lived. He kept the shape of it.

Germaine is an intuitive mother and grandmother who lives with her horses on her property in Hout Bay. She is passionate about sharing the profound connection between humans and horses.

  • BA in Psychology and Sociology
  • Education degree in Psychology
  • Qualified yoga teacher · 600-hour teacher training
  • Ongoing training in groundwork and classical horsemanship

Questions

What people actually ask.

Do I ride?

No. There is no riding, no horsemanship lesson, and no horse experience is required.

How long is a session?

Sixty minutes, from arrival to departure.

Are there dogs?

Yes. They are kept inside the house while a session is in progress, and if needed they can be kept away from clients at all times.

Do you work with people with special needs, or disabilities?

Yes, and often. Say what would help before you come and Germaine will work around it. Parking can be arranged inside the property.

Will the horses bite me?

One might nip. It is how horses talk to one another rather than anything personal, and Germaine is beside you the entire time.

Can I touch them?

You may. They may also decline and give you nothing at all for an hour. The horses choose how they engage, and there is no expectation that you interact with them.

What do I need to bring, and what should I wear?

Bring a hat and sunscreen. Wear whatever you are comfortable in, with protective shoes or boots suitable for walking on a farm.

Do I have to talk about anything?

No. Afterwards there is a conversation or simple breathing, whichever you prefer. There is no prescribed outcome.

Is this therapy?

No. Germaine is not a therapist and does not present herself as one. What happens here is an hour with horses.

Who is it not for?

Anyone frightened of horses, or who would simply rather not be near one.
